FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will Carbon 60 help with or cure my disease/ailment? What are the health benefits?
    • While the original University of Paris study yielded very exciting results regarding drastically increased longevity, Carbon 60 is still in the early research phase—particularly regarding its effect on human health. Currently the bulk of this research is being done by individuals studying a broad range of conditions and health effects, with the goal that the information gathered will eventually lead to larger scale controlled studies and some firm answers on what this fascinating molecule can do. We appreciate your feedback during this phase of scientific discovery, as every bit of data collected will help guide the research where it’s most useful.
  • How can I report my findings?
    • Over the years we have been contacted privately with many tantalizing updates about our customers’ progress. In an effort to make this information accessible to scientists, we have begun to compile a formal database. You can help us in this endeavor by submitting information about your experience through the questionnaire linked here: Carbon 60 Research Database
  • How much should I take?
    • Based on customer feedback, we suggest starting with one teaspoon per day (apx 5 ml), which can be taken with or without food. More information can be found on our Dosing and Storage page.
  • How is your price determined?
    • It is our mission to provide the very best, fully saturated Carbon 60 olive oil, delivered quickly, at a fair price. To achieve this goal, we use top quality research grade Carbon 60 and the best organic extra virgin olive oil available, as well as extremely robust packaging and Priority Mail shipment. Maintaining these standards is expensive, and we do our best to balance this by running an efficient operation and buying everything in bulk. This keeps costs as low as possible, and allows us to pass those savings along to our customers. You can learn more about how we achieve our proven quality by reading about our Process.
  • How fresh is your oil?
    • Based on the regular pace of shipping and production, the average bottle of our oil is shipped within three to five days of completing the three week mixing process.
  • How should I store the oil? Should I keep it in the refrigerator?
    • To protect the product from degradation, we recommend storing the oil in a place where it is protected from both heat and light, such as a cupboard away from the stove or any other heat generating appliances. Do not refrigerate or freeze. While refrigeration or freezing is harmless, chilling the oil to this degree will cause it to congeal in an unappealing way. If this happens, simply bring the oil back to room temperature and it will return to its normal consistency.
  • How long will it keep?
    • When stored properly (kept in a cool, dark place), an unopened bottle of Carbon 60 olive oil has a shelf life of up to two years. Long term exposure to higher than comfortable ambient temperatures or exposure to light may shorten this period by several months. Once opened, we recommend using within 30-60 days for maximum quality.
  • What does Carbon 60 olive oil taste like?
    • Raw Carbon 60 has a flavor that is initially similar to charcoal, followed by a mild peppery taste that lingers for some time. The taste of the extra virgin olive oil varies somewhat batch by batch, depending on the ripeness of the olives and the chlorophyll levels (which also affect the color). Sometimes the oil will smell and taste more grassy or fruity, and sometimes more spicy or peppery, accompanied by a mild burning sensation in the throat. Because our oil is fully saturated, the amplified pairing of flavors can be a little intense on more sensitive palates. For this reason, many people choose to take the oil by drizzling it on bread or a salad along with apple cider vinegar.
  • How can I tell if my oil has gone rancid?
    • The factors that lead to rancidity are prolonged exposure to light, heat, and air. An unopened bottle of olive oil will keep between 18 months and 2 years, depending in large part on the ambient temperature and light exposure; once opened and exposed repeatedly to air, we recommend use within 30-60 days for maximum freshness. Brief periods of higher than comfortable temperature that a sealed bottle may undergo during shipment may have a small effect on this range, but are not enough to significantly shorten the lifespan of the oil. If you are concerned that your oil may be rancid, here are things to look for: The smell will be foul, somewhat like glue. The taste, when slurped in the mouth and allowed to reach all parts of the tongue, will be flavorless or taste like old peanuts and leave the mouth very greasy. It will feel sticky on your fingers rather than smooth and thin. If your oil has gone rancid, we do not recommend using it.
  • What is your process?
    • We follow the exact process of the original University of Paris study (also known as the Baati process). We use 5 grams of research grade Carbon 60 per liter of organic extra virgin olive oil, which begins at 99.99% purity and is then vacuum oven dried to be completely solvent-free, mix in complete darkness for two weeks, then we centrifuge and sterile filter through a 0.22 micron filter before bottling. The entire process is controlled for temperature and light exposure to preserve the freshness and integrity of the product. More information can be found on our Process page.
  • What’s the difference between research grade and industrial Carbon 60?
    • We use an ultra-pure, solvent free grade of Carbon 60, otherwise known as research grade. Solvents (primarily one called Toluene) are used in the manufacturing process of all Carbon 60, however, in research grade Carbon 60 they are completely removed to undetectable levels through further processing (vacuum oven drying, specifically). Industrial grade Carbon 60, which many companies use because it is much cheaper, still contains Toluene or other solvents, as well as potentially dangerous levels of other nanoparticles, and is unfit for human consumption.
  • What color should Carbon 60 olive oil be?
    • We have found that despite consistently using the same high purity of Carbon 60 and the same brand of olive oil, using the same controlled Process, the color will vary. This variation is determined mainly by the chlorophyll level in the batch of olive oil, which is a reflection of the ripeness of the olives used in pressing (and also affects the flavor). Fresh, quality Carbon 60 olive oil will be a pleasing shade that generally ranges from reddish-purple to true purple, and will appear pinkish-purple to lavender when a small quantity is viewed through a clear applicator; in rare occasions when the chlorophyll levels are very high, the oil will even appear a bit brown (or amber when viewed through an applicator). While the color may vary, we are proud that the consistent quality and full saturation of our oil has been proven through third party laboratory testing of several random samples.
  • What are the ways other companies cut corners?
    • Because producing Carbon 60 olive oil the right way is extremely expensive and time consuming, there are many companies in the marketplace that put profit over integrity and the health of their customers by cutting corners. This commonly includes using an inferior, industrial grade of Carbon 60 (a lower level of purity containing dangerous contaminates), or simply adding 0.8 or 0.9 grams of Carbon 60 per liter of oil and claiming it all dissolved. Some companies are skipping sterile filtration, using unproven mixing processes (such as sonic mixers), or pulling the oil from mixing as soon as it turns color (about halfway through the required time for full saturation). We recommend asking any supplier whether they have had  third party laboratory testing done to prove their saturation.
  • Why is this other company’s oil black?
    • In the most troubling cases, some companies are producing black oil. One process that could produce this result is if they are heating the oil to extreme temperatures, essentially cooking the oil, which should never be done. In the worst case we have seen, some are obfuscating the established science to justify emulsifying their oil into a black goo using suspiciously sourced “Carbon 60” that bears many hallmarks of not being what it claims. This not only undercuts the very foundation of Carbon 60 research, advancing the Baati study, it also exposes people to a completely unresearched substance that is potentially hazardous. Black oil can only result from inferior ingredients or an inferior process, and should not be consumed.
  • Why olive oil rather than coconut or other oils?
    • Our goal is to exactly reproduce the Carbon 60 olive oil used in the original University of Paris study so that this groundbreaking research can be continued; an essential part of this is using the same oil and the same Carbon 60. In addition to the fact that it is the only oil so far to be scientifically evaluated as a carrier for studying the effects of Carbon 60, olive oil contains very high levels of antioxidants—far higher than coconut oil—and brings its own proven health benefits to the solution. While it stands to reason that other oils would serve as good carriers for Carbon 60, we are hesitant to offer them to our customers without evidence of their efficacy, including testing to show at what rate they reach maximum saturation and what that level might be.

However to confirm, give us a call at (530) 801-6800 during our business hours: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (CST), Monday through Friday, except for postal holidays.
  • What do I do if my payment fails during checkout or something on the site doesn’t seem to be working?
    • A problem with checkout may be something as simple as the wrong expiration date format for your credit card or a typo in your cvv number, and this is the first thing we have people check. However, because of recently implemented security requirements across the web, some people are experiencing problems due to outdated operating systems (OS) and browsers. If you do not have a compatible OS version or browser, you will get a connection warning or error when attempting to use our shop. You can test your device by going to https://carbon60oliveoil.com/system-compatibility/. It is also helpful to clear your History, Cache, and Cookies. This page from Indiana University explains how to perform this action. If you still experience issues, please contact us by emailing [email protected].
  • What if I need to cancel an order/request a refund?
    • If for any reason you need to alter an order, cancel an order or request a refund, we are happy to help. Please contact us by emailing [email protected], or by calling (530) 801-6800 during our business hours: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (CST), Monday through Friday, except for postal holidays.
  • Can I request faster shipping than Priority Mail?
    • Because items ordered after hours, during weekends or on postal holidays will not ship until the next business day (as detailed in our Shipping Policy), we want to make sure customers don’t pay for Express shipping unless we can deliver on their expected timetable; for this reason, we do not include Priority Mail Express shipping on our dropdown menu during checkout. We are, however, happy to make this option available to those who need it by invoicing for the additional shipping cost – please add your request as a customer note when placing your order, or contact us before ordering by emailing [email protected] or calling (530) 801-6800 during our business hours: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (CST), Monday through Friday (except for postal holidays). Be advised that USPS Priority Mail Express shipping promises delivery in 1-2 business days after processing for domestic orders—a very similar delivery window to our Free Shipping option, which is USPS Priority Mail (delivery in 1-3 business days after processing).
  • Where can I find my tracking number?
    • PayPal (or USPS, in the case of some larger orders) will send an email containing a tracking number within a few minutes of the purchase of the shipping label. This tracking information is also added as a note to your order, and can be viewed by logging in to your account. If you are having trouble accessing this information, please contact [email protected] and we will be happy to help.
  • My package is being held by Customs, and they are asking me to pay fees before releasing it. Can you help me avoid this in the future?
    • Unfortunately, this happens sometimes, and the fees vary country by country (sometimes even customs agent by customs agent). We are legally obligated to list the true price and contents of our shipments, and cannot mark them as gifts or say they are of zero value. We recommend looking into your country’s policies regarding customs fees before you order so you know what to expect. As an added service to our customers, we have also developed relationships with many distributors around the world, and it is possible you may be able to save on customs fees or taxes by ordering from a country with friendlier trade agreements. Here is a link to our Distributor Page where you can find their locations and contact information.
  • How can I become a distributor?
  • Why are the prices higher from my nearby distributor than on your website?
    • Often our distributors have factored in the cost of paying customs fees and taxes so they can provide you with faster, simpler delivery of our product.
  • Why isn’t my country on the shipping list at checkout?
    • Unfortunately, certain countries have policies that make it difficult to import our product, resulting in many packages being rejected by customs. If your country does not appear on the drop down menu when ordering, it most likely means we can no longer offer direct sales. In an effort to look out for the best interests of our customers with the most efficient and safe way to order, we have developed relationships with many distributors around the world that may have friendlier trade agreements and would therefore be able to deliver our product to you. Here is a link to our Distributor Page where you can find their locations and contact information. If you believe your country has been omitted from our list in error, please contact [email protected]; we would be happy to look into it and remedy the situation if that is the case.
